In Islam, the concept of self-sufficiency and enabling others to earn a livelihood is highly valued. The Quran emphasizes the dignity of work and encourages individuals to engage in honest labor. Prophet Muhammad himself worked as a trader before receiving the divine revelations.
One of the key principles is the concept of “Barakah,” or blessings, in one’s earnings through lawful means. The Quran states, “And do not consume one another’s wealth unjustly or send it [in bribery] to the rulers in order that [they might aid] you [to] consume a portion of the wealth of the people in sin, while you know [it is unlawful]” (2:188).
Additionally, the Prophet Muhammad said, “The upper hand is better than the lower hand,” emphasizing the virtue of giving and helping others to stand on their own feet rather than relying on charity.
There is some sayings of the holy prophet SAW encouraging to enable and assist others to work or worker is one of the best deeds.
The holy prophet SAW said the best people are those who are benefiting others.
If you give one as charity and he consumes or consummate it completely rather by giving a charity to use to enable him to earn money by himself is more sustainable and will become Sadaqa e Jariah ie continous charity and the later case would become more rewarding than the first first case.
As it may continue even after the death when we can’t give charity anymore.
These teachings underline the importance of fostering an environment where individuals can earn their livelihood with dignity, promoting self-reliance and sustainable economic practices.
